Subject: Handling books
>The Bibliotheque cantonale et universitaire of Lausanne >(Switzerland) would be very interested to get any information >concerning the protection given to old and rare books while >consulting them in order to protect their bindings. Dear Ms. Mincio and Mr. Corsino, In the reading room at the Humanities Research Center "book supports" are used to hold and protect books while they are in use. At the most recent American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) meeting these book supports were displayed along with a hand-out describing their construction. Many other clever housing and handling ideas were presented and it is possible that a publication covering the pre-conference will be issued in the future. Until it comes out, if you are interested I can send you a copy of the "book support" hand-out. Reply by e-mail if you want it. We need your help. FAIC seeks to improve CoOL and the DistList, and increase their value to the conservation field and beyond. In an effort to do so, we have put together a short, voluntary survey of DistList subscribers and other users of the CoOL website and its various resources. Please help us develop these invaluable resources by taking a few minutes to complete the survey
