Subject: Workshop on conservation of ethnographic collections
CAC Training Workshop Critical Issues in the Conservation of Ethnographic Collections The 1998 Training Workshop will be held in Whitehorse on May 30-31, 1998, directly after the CAC conference and will familiarize conservators in all fields with sensitivities inherent in Native cultural property. The workshop will facilitate a frank and open discussion of values which have an impact upon the provision of conservation services toward Native cultural property whether in the community or institutional setting. Native museum professionals working on behalf of their own communities will comment upon their dealings with institutions within the museum community. Conservators from Canadian Institutions and abroad will describe working with indigenous communities and/or ethnic minorities whose material culture forms an important part of their institutional collections. Specialists in the field of alternative dispute resolution will offer strategies for mediation in situations of cross-cultural conflict. We need your help. FAIC seeks to improve CoOL and the DistList, and increase their value to the conservation field and beyond. In an effort to do so, we have put together a short, voluntary survey of DistList subscribers and other users of the CoOL website and its various resources. Please help us develop these invaluable resources by taking a few minutes to complete the survey
