Date: Wednesday, February 4, 1998
This is to announce two positions at the National Trust's Blickling
Textile Conservation Studio, Norfolk, England.

Senior Textile Conservator

This is a responsible position, providing opportunities for building
up your skills and experience and the chance to travel widely around
the country. You will be a senior member of the studio staff,
assisting the Manager in every aspect of its operation. This means
that you will also manage staff and contribute to student training,
as well as carrying out the conservation work (both in the Studio
and on site) which forms the core of your role. Ideally we are
looking for an experienced (at least four years post qualification)
textile conservator who has a mature attitude, good communication
skills, and the ability to motivate others as well as themselves. A
current driving licence is essential, and applicants must be
entitled to work in the EC. The starting salary offered is in the
range Sterling 16,370 - 18,380 p/a.

The Levy Textile Conservation Internship

A one-year internship in textile conservation is offered annually,
funded from a generous bequest by Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Levy. The
intern will assist experienced conservators with all aspects of
textile conservation including tapestries, and will follow a work
programme designed to offer new skills and broaden those already
acquired. Applications are sought from students who are just
completing their training in textile conservation or related
studies, or from conservators who have completed their training in
the last three years. A full driving licence is essential. The
successful applicant will take up the internship on 7 September
1998. The salary for one year is Sterling 13,970

The closing date for applications for both posts is 27 March, and
interviews will be held on 16 and 17 April. For further details and

The National Trust is Europe's leading conservation charity, and its
textile collections, housed in some two hundred properties open to
the public, are of outstanding importance. The studio is run as an
enterprise, and its staff carry out conservation work on textiles
belonging to the National Trust and other clients, and training is
also offered to young conservators. The Studio is located at
Blickling Hall, one of the great Jacobean country houses of England,
built in 1619 to replace an earlier house which was probably the
birthplace of Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII. Further
information about the National Trust and its properties can be found
at its web site: <URL:http://www.ukindex.co.uk/nationaltrust/>.
