Art History and Conservation: A Symposium to Honor Charles Rhyne
Reed College, Psychology Auditorium
Saturday, March 7

The Reed College Art Department is hosting a symposium to honor
Charles Rhyne, who joined the Reed faculty in 1960 and became an
emeritus professor of Art History last year. The symposium's
subject, the relationship between art history and conservation,
has long been a subject of Charles's research and teaching.
Charles's effectiveness in conveying his interest in this
subject to his students is apparent in the symposium's program:
in the morning session, all five of the speakers are Reed
graduates and former students of Charles's who are now working
as professional conservators. In the afternoon, John Walsh,
Director of the J. Paul Getty Museum, will give a plenary
lecture discussing the relationship between art history and
conservation, with special reference to the collections of the
    Getty Museum.

    10-1: Morning session.
