Position at Swiss National Museum

From: Markus Leuthard <markus.leuthard>
Date: Tuesday, May 5, 1998
National Museum is looking to fill the
following post as soon as possible:

Archaeolgical Conservator (100%)

Responsibilities: Practical work will principally involve the
conservation of archaeolgical organic materials and especially that
of waterlogged wood. The preparation and mounting of objects for
exhibition will also be required, as will the responsibility of
collections care standards for the organic objects in the permanent
study collection both in storage and on exhibit.

It is expected that the successful candidate will keep abreast of
current conservation methods and continue an active collaboration
with the archaeological section as a whole in its exhibitions and
general activities.

A well developed infrastructure offers the possibility to use a
variety of conservation methods and to continue their development in
collaboration with other conservators and curators in the section.
Professional contact with other national and international
institutions affords enhancement of training and experience.

Requirements: Applicants should have a degree in archaeological
conservation from a recognized training program and several years of
experience after training in the maintenance, treatment and
preventive care of organic materials. An ability to work
independently, and a working knowledge of several languages, above
all German, French and English, is also desirable.
