Salary: GS-5 ($21,421 - $27,851)   GS-7 ($26,531 - $34,487)

Incumbent is assigned to the Painting Conservation Department within
the National Gallery's Conservation Division. Assists painting
conservators in examination of paintings using x-radiography and
infra-red reflectography, and in the preparation of digital images
for conservation treatment, research, and publication. Prepares
stock solutions, monitors supply levels, orders supplies and
maintains equipment as directed. Logs movement of paintings in and
out of the conservation laboratory. Labels slides, and keeps slide
collection and reference materials in order. Carries out
photography, filing and database management.

Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements
will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best
qualified candidates. Applicants are strongly encouraged to describe
their possession of these factors in a supplement to their
applications.

    1.  Knowledge of art conservation operations and processes.
    2.  Knowledge of art history and/or studio art.
    3.  Skill in the handling and inspecting of works of art.
    4.  Familiarity with chemistry or other related sciences.
    5.  Skill in organizing and maintaining technical reports and
        files.
    6.  Skill in utilizing personal computers (desktop publishing,
        graphics, database, word processing).
