Workshop on historic mortars

From: John Hughes <hugh-ce0>
Date: Wednesday, August 19, 1998
A workshop entitled "Historic Mortars: Characteristics & Tests" is
to be held at the Advanced Concrete & Masonry Centre at the
University of Paisley, Scotland, from 12-14th May 1999. This
workshop is organised by the RILEM Technical Committee TC-COM on
"Characterisation of Old Mortars, with respect to their repair",
which is working on recommendations concerning methods of analysis
and guidelines for the selection of replacement materials for
effective conservation of Historic Buildings. Participants will
include materials researchers, architects and conservation
scientists and practitioners. The Workshop will strongly emphasise
the practical, and links between research and real applications.

Attendance at a RILEM event of this type is normally by invitation
only, and those known to the committee will be contacted soon.
However, in an effort not to exclude those with a strong commitment
to this subject area, applications from non-invited delegates will
be considered. The intention is maintain an informal atmosphere
amongst approximately 50 delegates, so that all those attending can
make active contributions.

Non-invited delegates will be subject to a registration fee of up to
UKP 80, which will cover meals, pre-prints of papers and a copy of
the proceedings published after the event.

Interested parties with a strong commitment to the study of mortars
in historic buildings should contact me at the address below. The
deadline for the receipt of abstracts (in English, one side of A4,
2.5cm all-around margin) is the 30th September 1998.
