Internship at Canterbury Shaker Village

From: Marc A. Williams <artcons>
Date: Thursday, August 20, 1998
Canterbury Shaker Village, a National Historic Landmark in central
New Hampshire, is seeking a Conservation Intern for a collections
storage reorganization project. The intern will work under the
direction of a contract conservator and a nationally-known
consulting decorative arts conservator. The project will involve
surface cleaning, object rehousing, digital photography and database
documentation. The position will provide an excellent opportunity
to gain collections care experience within a real-world historic
site museum, as well as to be involved with nationally significant
cultural artifacts. The intern will begin work in October, 1998 and
continue through May of 1999, with the potential to extend the
position through the summer of 1999.

Canterbury Shaker Village consists of twenty-five original historic
buildings, dating from 1792-1939, situated on a rolling hilltop
surrounded by 694 acres of fields, woodlots and ponds. The Village
is minutes away from lakes and trails, and only an hour from the
White Mountains and from the sites and entertainment of Portsmouth
and the New Hampshire seacoast. Housing will be provided for the
duration of the internship; a stipend will be available for the
summer of 1999.

Applicants should be well-organized, able to work independently, and
possess excellent dexterity. Training or experience with
collections conservation, storage reorganization, and textiles is
desired. By September 15, please send a resume and a letter of
interest to:
