X-ray equipment

Our X-ray apparatus has finally reached retirement age, and we have
received money to buy a new one for the laboratories here at the
University Museum of National Antiquities, University of Oslo.

The users of the instrument will be objects conservators
(archaeological and historic objects) as well as paintings
conservators. The students taking part in the Conservation Studies
Program will be instructed in the use of the instrument as well.
This means that the size of objects to be inserted under the
radiation gun ranges from small to large (up to 2 sq. meters can be
taken into the building) and it should be possible to regulate the
kilovoltage range from low to high (max 200 kilovolts) levels.

We would like to learn about experiences from other users of X-ray
instruments, including information about any new progress in X-ray
instrument technology. We are interested in hearing about
experiences with both the supplier and the instrument itself, costs,
space required for the instrument, and anything else which may be of
interest. Thank you,

Susan Braovac
