Paper contaminated with formaldehyde

From: Jed Bark <jbark>

I am inquiring for friends at a not-for-profit which does not have
access to the DistList.

Recently renovated offices were found to contain elevated levels of
formaldehyde in the air. Apparently improperly finished desks were
the source. It seems that numerous paper files absorbed the material
out-gassed from the desks, and now the paper files are a significant
source of out-gassing formaldehyde.

Can anyone suggest methods for rendering these papers safe to use?
Is there a way to rapidly accelerate the out-gassing from the
papers until there is little or no pollutant left in them?
