Position at Te Papa

From: Julie FitzGerald <julief>
Date: Monday, November 9, 1998
Conservator, Paper
Te Papa

A position has become available in the Te Papa Conservation Team for
a Paper Conservator. This position is part-time (20 hours per week)
and for a fixed term of 18 months starting 1 March 1999. In this
position you will provide conservation advice to collection managers
and exhibition teams to help them care for the paper based
collections. This will include preparing condition assessments for
acquisitions, loans and touring exhibitions. You will also carry out
treatment projects on a range of Te Papa's paper based collections
to support Te Papa's exhibition, loan, collection development and
collection care programmes. Some of these treatments may be featured
in Te Papa's Back of House Tour programme so every now and again you
will be expected to tell small groups of visitors about your work on
these projects.

This position will work in close co-operation with our extant paper
conservator, to provide a seamless service.

You will have a recognized conservation qualification and one to two
years experience as a practising conservator. Your training and
experience will have focussed on paper and you will be comfortable
treating watercolours, prints, drawings and documents. Some
experience with photographs would be an advantage. You will enjoy
working co-operatively with other museum professionals in a
challenging environment, and making a difference to the wellbeing of
the collection.

You will be familiar with tikanga Maori and its application to
conservation treatment and collection care.

If you are not a New Zealand or Australian citizen you will need to
be eligible to obtain a New Zealand work visa for 18 months. The job
description and further information is available from:
