Job Summary: The Historical Society of Pennsylvania seeks a Project
Preservation Technician for a three-year, grant-funded project
focusing on the Society's rich and extensive holdings of family
papers.  The Project Preservation Technician will be part of a
four-person team that will preserve and make accessible collections
of family papers that have been designated as having a high research
value. Reports to the Project Coordinator.

Specific Responsibilities: The Project Preservation Technician's
primary duties will be to preserve, conserve, and rehouse
manuscripts and archival material as stipulated by the funding
agency.  This position also entails thoroughly documenting the
preservation work completed for the project and performing other
duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: This position requires a bachelor's degree in an
art-related field or equivalent work experience and familiarity with
the principles of preservation.  Excellent hand skills are
essential.  The ideal candidate should have prior experience with
paper conservation and book repair, as well as coursework in
preservation.  Good time management and organizational skills are
required, and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week, Monday-Friday), limited-term
(3-year) position.  The salary is a minimum of $28,500 with
competitive benefits (including 11 paid holidays, 12 vacation days,
6 personal days, a cafeteria-style medical and dental plan, and
TIAA-CREF retirement plan). The position will begin on or after
March 31, 2003, and remain open until filled.  Send a letter of
