You are invited to attend the fourth biennial North American Textile
Conservation Conference, "Tales in the Textile: The Conservation of
Flags and Other Symbolic Textiles," co-sponsored by the New York
State Museum and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation. The three-day program (November 6-8) includes
23 papers, 9 posters, 2 receptions, a tour and discussion sessions.
Additional tours are offered on the day before and the day after the
conference. A separate session of 3 workshops will precede the
conference, on Wednesday, November 5. Paper presentations will take
place at the New York State Museum.

The NYSM is a part of the Empire State Plaza, a 98 acre governmental
center located in downtown Albany, New York, that also includes
performing arts and convention facilities. The conference hotel is
located two short blocks from the Empire State Plaza. Workshops will
take place at the Peebles Island Resource Center Conservation Labs
in nearby Waterford, New York. Albany, founded in 1609 and first
settled by the Dutch, is the capital of New York state. It is well
known for its history and architecture, and is a center of
government, education, and culture. The metropolitan area
surrounding Albany, which includes the cities of Troy and
Schenectady, is known as the Capital District. Geographically,
Albany lies at the crossroads of Boston (170 miles/274 km east), New
York City (159 miles/256 km south), and Montreal (226 miles/364 km
