On Friday, March 28, 2003, Renzo Giachetti, Conservation Faculty of
Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence, Italy, received
a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Medici Arts Circle of Bowling
Green State University (Ohio). Professor Giachetti was, until his
recent retirement, the Head of the Restoration Center of the
Archaeological Superintendence of Florence, which he organized after
the November 1966 flood in Florence. That laboratory, which he
guided for more than 35 years, now has a professional staff of

excavations for museums. The list includes the Louvre, the British
Museum, and the Museum of Cairo. His most famous project, which has
been widely published in the popular literature, was the
conservation of the Riace bronzes in Calabria. Since 1995,
Professor Giachetti has shared his knowledge and expertise with the
students of the SACI art conservation program, a United States
university level program based in Florence, Italy.
