Conservation Technician
Hagley Museum and Library

Hagley Museum and Library announces a 12-month position working with
flat paper, books, photographic materials, and related objects.
Dedicated to the preservation and understanding of America's
economic and technological heritage, our library houses an important
collection of manuscripts, archives, books, pamphlets, trade
catalogs, photographs, audiovisual materials, and ephemera.

Reporting to the Library Conservator, the Conservation Technician
assists with daily operations including mold removal, surface
cleaning, disbinding, washing, mending, lining, inpainting,
rebacking, binding, housing, and related conservation tasks
including exhibit preparation. All major projects require a detailed
treatment report supported by photographic documentation.

The Technician also will help process the Raymond Loewy Archive, an
NEH grant-funded project that requires surface cleaning and mending
50 linear feet of documents, stabilizing 40 scrapbooks for a
microfilming and digital imaging contract with Preservation
Resources, and managing an acetate stripping and duplication
contract with Chicago Albumen Works, among other tasks. Other
interesting projects slated for the next year include restoration of
the PSFS architectural model and packing our current exhibit Raymond
Loewy: Designs for a Consumer Culture for travel to multiple venues.

The salary is $23,300 with generous benefits for a one-year period.
Applications are due by July 1, 2003. The start date may be arranged
