Lasers and textiles

From: Petra Nirmaier <petra.nirmaier>

In the local history museum visitors can get information about
objects via electronic reading equipment working with laser light.
In some cases the bar codes are situated right in front of historic
textiles or canvas paintings which will subsequently be frequently
hit by the laser beam. The textiles are behind glass, the paintings
aren't. Is this sort of laser light harmful to the objects? If yes,
how can they be protected, e.g. filtering by film on glass?
