Position at Horniman Museum

From: Marie Howard <mhoward>
Date: Thursday, December 18, 2003
Conservation Officer
Boosey and Hawkes Collection
Horniman Museum and Gardens
Salary UKP18000 per annum
Temporary Post for One Year

The Horniman has recently acquired the Boosey and Hawkes musical
instrument collection. The collection comprises over 300 historic
musical instruments mostly woodwind and brass, many made by Boosey
and Hawkes, but also includes a wide range of instruments by other
makers.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced objects
conservator to carry out a conservation assessment of the musical
instruments, conduct remedial conservation work on the entire
collection, and to work on selected items to bring them to display
standard. This post is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and
must be completed by March 2005.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in conservation, or other
recognised conservation qualification and be able to work largely
independently. This is a good opportunity for someone with at least
2 years' relevant experience to work with a rich and varied
collection. Knowledge of musical instruments is not essential but
you must have experience of assessing and conserving a wide range of
materials.

The work will be carried out at the Museum's Study Collection Centre
at East Greenwich but you should be prepared to work at the Horniman
Museum main site at Forest Hill if required.

The closing date for completed applications is January 2, 2004.

who are currently under-represented at the Museum.
