From East to West: Japanese Conservation Techniques - Western Prints and Drawings Ecole nationale superieure des Arts visuels de La Cambre Abbaye de La Cambre, 21 B- 1000 Brussels August 20-September 9, 2005 Tutors : Andrew Hare and Claude Laroque This is the fifth workshop about Japanese painting conservation techniques applied to Western collections. It is organized by the Ecole nationale superieure des arts visuels de La Cambre, Brussels (Master programme in Conservation of works of art) the Section Arts graphiques de Conservation - Restauration des biens culturels de l'Universite Paris I - Pantheon Sorbonne (Master programme in Conservation of Cultural Properties, University of Paris I, Pantheon Sorbonne) and The Department of Conservation and Scientific Research, Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution',Washington, DC. It has been designed for 14 paper conservators who wish to extend their practical knowledge of Japanese materials and techniques and how they can be applied to the conservation of Western paper artifacts. The programme will offer theoretical lectures, demonstrations and museum visits, but the emphasis is firmly focused on developing transferable practical skills.
