Position at National Trust for Scotland

From: Clare Meredith <cmeredith>
Date: Wednesday, January 31, 2007
Project Conservator
Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
The National Trust for Scotland
fixed-term to 31 January 2009

Closing date: 12 Feb 2007

The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) is leading a project to
redevelop the existing Burns National Heritage Park, in Alloway near
Ayr, into a new museum that will conserve Burns' birthplace,
associated buildings and collections, and celebrate the poet's life
and work. The Project Conservator will help shape and deliver the
project that is to be completed in time for the celebration of
Burns' 250th anniversary in 2009.

The Burns collection is wide-ranging and includes manuscripts, books
and works of art, as well as social/domestic/commemorative ephemera,
currently housed in varied and challenging environments. The
Project Conservator will be responsible for planning and
implementing the decant and conservation programme of the
collection, as well as its recording and re-instatement.

You will have a recognised conservation qualification with relevant
experience, ideally related to manuscripts, but will also be able to
advise on and give practical support to wider collections care
issues.

The post is based in Alloway, Ayrshire, but will initially involve
travel to and from the Trust's Regional Office in Clarkston
(Glasgow) and Central Office (Edinburgh). For full details and an
application form telephone +44 131 243 9417 or email
joinus [at] nts__org__uk. The closing date for applications is 12 February
2007.
