The National Museum of Denmark

The National Museum of Denmark's Dept. of Conservation, is seeking
to appoint a project researcher for a three-year position starting
with immediate effect.

The main work area is research into the physical preservation of
objects from the industrial era, with focus on composite objects
such as machinery and vehicles. The research will be carried out in
close cooperation with other specialists from the National Museum.
The aims of the project are to provide knowledge about deterioration
mechanisms, and the protection and monitoring of objects, which are
displayed under conditions without climate control.

The project is focused upon applied research whereby the results of
the research will be tested in various pilot projects and presented
to professionals in the form of method protocols and guidelines for
their use. It is also expected that theoretical and practical
results concerning the conservation and preservation of industrial
cultural heritage shall be presented at national and international
fora and published in relevant journals.

Qualifications: The applicant shall be qualified to PhD level within
materials or conservation science. We are looking for an applicant
with both a theoretical background and practical experience of the
deterioration and protection of metals. Practical experience and
knowledge of relevant measuring techniques in both a laboratory and
field environment are also essential. Furthermore, it is important
that the applicant is open minded, shows a willingness to
collaborate and has experience in networking and dissemination of
research. Preferably, the applicant will have experience within the
area of preservation of cultural heritage.

Terms of employment: 37 hours per week. Salary is according to the
agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Danish Association of
Masters and PhDs (candidates with a Masters Degree) and according to
government circular of March 5. 1997. Applicants professional
qualifications will be evaluated by an expert committee.

Employment can imply some travel activity. Candidates must have a
valid drivers licence.
