AIC Angels project

The 2008 AIC Angels project is a true reflection of the meeting
location. It's all about mountains! The American Alpineering Club
and the Colorado Mountain Club are very excited to be the host site.
Both organizations are dedicated to the study and promotion of
mountain environments and activities. Located in Golden, Colorado,
20 minutes West of Denver, the Clubs are housed in a National
Historic Register Beaux Arts building. The AAC and CMC
collaboratively maintain the largest mountaineering library in the
Western Hemisphere, as well as the newly opened Bradford Washburn
American Mountaineering Museum.

Club websites are as follows:

Angels will be transported to and from Denver to Golden on Friday
April 25, 2008. Lunch will be provided.

The collections include photographs, circulating and rare books,
manuscripts, archives, maps, and realia. While details of the
projects are still being discussed, it is certain that there will be
something for conservators of all specialties, as there are a wide
range of needs, from basic storage organization to condition surveys
to minor repairs. In fact, if you contact the organizer now, we may
be able to tailor a project toward your interest!

Each year, as part of its annual meeting, The American Institute for
the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) works with
local conservators to develop similar "Angels" projects. Sites for
past projects include, the John Marshall House, Richmond, VA, the
Redwood Library and Athenaeum, Newport, RI, Clearwater County
Historical Society, Shevlin, MN, Howard University, and the Naval
Historical Center both in Washington, D.C. The primary goal of the
Angels projects is to promote a broader understanding of the
importance of cultural preservation while providing meaningful
assistance to important local collections.
