Bookbindings on Incunables Lecture

Schlesinger Library, 3 James Street,
Cambridge, MA, on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 6pm

Speaker: Scott Husby

The New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is pleased to
present a lecture by Scott Husby, who recently retired as Rare Books
Conservator at Princeton University. Husby will present his project
on the identification of incunables that retain their original
bindings. He will discuss where texts were bound, the manner in
which they were bound, and how the bindings were decorated. From
this information, he has drawn some conclusions about text
distribution in the early days of printing. This ongoing project
began at Princeton University, and has since expanded to include
information about the collections of the Huntington Library, Morgan
Library, and the Grolier Club, among others. Please join us for
what is sure to be an interesting talk about these beautiful books.
