    conservation
Historic New England (HNE)

Historic New England is seeking applications for a 12-month
postgraduate fellowship in conservation beginning in the fall of
2008. Projects for the year will focus on the treatment of objects
and interiors at various HNE properties, including Beauport, the
summer retreat of interior designer Henry Sleeper in Gloucester,
Massachusetts; and at Rundlet-May, Historic New England's 1807 house
in Portsmouth, NH. In addition, the conservation lab will be
continuing an on-going project to develop a comprehensive program of
environmental monitoring and control at all HNE's properties;
conducting a conservation survey at the Phillips House, another
Federal period house, in Salem, MA; assessing the preservation needs
of the extensive collections of outdoor ornament at various HNE
properties; and developing and implementing improvements to off-site
storage conditions at HNE's Collections and Conservation Center.
Objects in Historic New England's collections include American and
European decorative arts, furniture, and textiles dating from the
late-17th through the mid-20th centuries.

Candidates must be graduates of a conservation training program or
have equivalent experience and be legally entitled to work in the
United States. The stipend for the fellowship is $25,000 a year plus
benefits. Additional funds for travel and research may be available.
The fellowship is based in Historic New England's conservation lab
located in the Collections and Conservation Center in Haverhill, MA,
approximately 45 minutes north of Boston.
