Circus Museum

The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Florida State University,
located in Sarasota, Florida, is providing a high quality, practical
work experience to help launch a museum career for a recent graduate
of an advanced degree program. This is a one-year appointment with
an anticipated starting date of June 12. Salary is $24,500 plus
full benefits. Application deadline is March 3, 2008.

Knowledge of paper conservation is helpful. The primary project
will be to undertake assessment of the Circus Museum's paper
collections with special emphasis on the circus poster and herald
collections. The successful candidate will evaluate these
collections, identify problems and needs, and with the Museum's
curators and conservator, develop a long-range plan for ongoing
conservation work. This exciting and challenging position involves
working with a unique historical collection as well as participating
in exhibition design and working with the Circus Museum's digital
program. The fellow will also be part of the team that will develop
and design a new 20,000 square foot addition to the circus museum.

The Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State
University, is the largest museum/university complex in the nation.
Located on an impressive 66-acre estate on Sarasota Bay, it
preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and
enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight
in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions;
Ca d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museum; the
Tibbals Learning Center; the Original Asolo Theater; and historic
architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking Sarasota
Bay. Newly opened in 2007 were the Arthur F. and Ulla R. Searing
Wing and the Education Conservation Building housing the library,
conservation facility, classrooms and staff offices. The Visitors
Pavilion serves some 350,000 annual guests. Florida State
University, the Museum's parent institution, also operates two
