The New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is pleased to
present an illustrated lecture by Mindy Dubansky on book designer
Alice C. Morse (1863-1961).

In 1997, Dubansky, librarian and conservator at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art, discovered a trove of cover designs by Morse in a
storage area at the Museum. Like her contemporaries, Sarah Wyman
Whitman and Margaret Armstrong, Morse designed wonderful bindings,
emblematic of the American Decorative Arts Movement. Over a
ten-year period, Dubansky collected 80 published books designed by
Morse and recently, curated a exhibition on Morse's life and work at
the Grolier Club. She has written a book about Morse, The Proper
Decoration of Book Covers: The Life and Work of Alice C. Morse.

Please join us to hear a delightful speaker describe her findings
about an important designer from an exciting period of book
publishing.

The talk will talk place Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Schlesinger
Library at 6 pm. Free and open to the public. Books will be
available for sale.
