Call for papers
Studying Old Master Paintings - Technology and Practice
National Gallery London 30th Anniversary Technical Bulletin
    Conference
The National Gallery
London
16-18 September 2009

The Scientific Department of the National Gallery, London, is
hosting a three-day Conference to mark the publication of the 30th
volume of the National Gallery Technical Bulletin.

The central theme of the Conference will be all subjects relating to
the technical study of Old Master paintings and the history and
technology of painting materials and techniques, research topics
which have been the focus of the National Gallery Technical Bulletin
over the last thirty years. The most recent international meeting
devoted to this subject was the IIC congress in Dublin in 1998, ten
years ago. Considerable developments have taken place in this field
since then, and this Conference aims to examine the advances that
have been made and enable new work to be disseminated and discussed.
The overall programme of papers should prove of interest to
conservators, curators, art-historians and scientists working in the
heritage and museum fields.

Contributions to the Conference should be original material that has
not been published elsewhere and should be directly related to the
materials and practice of European Old Master painting. Papers of an
interdisciplinary nature that apply technical findings and
analytical evidence to art historical and conservation problems are
particularly encouraged. Wider discussions of documentary sources,
painting practice and the materials and technology of paintings are
also welcome for works from the 14th century until the early decades
of the 20th century. Technical papers on works of art in other media
which have a direct bearing on easel paintings will also be
considered for inclusion in the Conference programme.

If you would like to contribute a paper to the Conference, please
submit an abstract of no more than 500 words by email to
tbconference2009<-a t->ng-london< . >org< . >uk by 12 December 2008.

Postprints of the Conference will be published in both electronic
and printed form. The deadline for final manuscripts for the
postprints will be 31 October 2009.

The language of the Conference is English.
