Museum Victoria is the largest public museums organisation in
Australia. It is a networked organisation with high standard
facilities and technology. It is entrusted with managing the state
of Victoria's outstanding and extensive natural science and cultural
heritage collections (16.5 million items). Museum Victoria operates
4 public venues and 2 off-site collections storage campuses.

Museum Victoria seeks to appoint to the newly-created role of
Conservator (Sciences). The Conservation Department comprises 2
teams, each led by a Senior Conservator who coordinates the work of
team members and reports to the Manager, Conservation. This role in
the Collections Preservation team will contribute expertise to care,
management and preservation of collections.

This role will focus primarily on specimens, information and
resources in the Mammalogy, Ornithology, Entomology, Herpetology,
Ichthyology, Invertebrate Zoology, Geosciences and Palaeontology
collections. This is an exciting opportunity for a conservator to
collaborate with discipline curators and collection managers,
specimen preparators (taxidermy/skeletal, restoration,
moulding/casting) and team colleagues on diverse collection-focused
projects.

Broad-based conservation experience and demonstrated knowledge of
best practice care of natural science collections are essential for
this role, as are skills in information-based research and
scientific analysis. The successful applicant will have outstanding
team-work skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively and
successfully under limited direction and supervision. The ability to
initiate and implement projects involving multiple stakeholders and
achieve expected outcomes and schedule requirements is essential.
This role also requires excellent skills in interpersonal and verbal
communication.

Museum Victoria has been assessed by its staff (approximately 700)
and volunteers (approximately 450) as an employer of choice. The
Museum's Staff Partnership Agreement outlines an excellent benefit
offer for employees which includes commitment to work/life balance
initiatives, staff professional and personal development and
discount public transport /shop/cafe/IMAX offers.
