Date: Wednesday, March 14, 2012
Preservation Manager/Conservator
Based at the Old Palace, York Minster

UKP27,351 per annum

Full time (35 hours per week)

2-year fixed-term contract. Possibility of extension.

York Minster has an exciting opportunity for a preservation
manager/conservator to update preservation practice and initiate a
targeted programme of conservation work for its substantial archive
and library collections, which include medieval and modern records and
manuscripts, early and modern printed books, works of art on paper,
photographs, sound recordings, and films. In addition to your work at
the Minster, you will be seconded to the University of York for one week
in five to carry out conservation work on its book collections.

Working with the Minster Archivist and Librarian, you will develop a
preservation policy for the Minster Archives and Library, and plan and
implement programmes of preservation and conservation work.

You will contribute to the Minster's outreach programme, and develop and
manage a programme of training courses for professional conservators to
be held in the Minster's modern and well-appointed conservation studio.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified and accredited book and paper
conservator with substantial experience of preservation and conservation
work in archives/libraries. Managerial experience, including the planning
and management of projects, budgets, and staff/volunteers, would be a
distinct advantage. You will be a good communicator, able to provide
training to colleagues/volunteers. Good IT skills are essential.
