Project Conservator
Caring for Kenwood
English Heritage

Closing date: 15 May 2012

The Caring for Kenwood building project is taking place in two
phases from Autumn 2011 until Autumn 2013. Phase 1 covered the
Service wing. Phase 2 covers the main house and subsequent
representation of the interiors.

Working as part of the collections conservation team, you will work
to plan, manage and undertake the care and conservation of the fine
and decorative art collections located at Kenwood House whilst they
are in storage during the Caring for Kenwood Project. Working as a
member of the project team, you will monitor the collections in
store, manage and install in-situ protection, supervise contractors
on site, reinstall objects from the stores and work to improve
storage conditions, as well as liaising with the wider project team
and other contractors on collections conservation matters.

You will manage external conservation projects on gilded furniture
and other objects and carry out surface cleaning and stabilisation
treatments of gilded frames and other objects whilst in store.

Following building works you will work with the project team to
clean the rooms, in-stall environmental and pest monitoring, train
new staff and implement a new housekeeping schedule. You will
organise the return and re-display of objects and condition check
them prior to re-opening of the house in October 2013. You will have
a recognised qualification in conservation. The ability to work
both independently and as part of a busy team is essential.

This post is fixed term for 16 months
