Rebinding a large atlas

I have been requested to work on a rebinding project for which I'd
be glad to receive some advice.

It is a 1931 atlas, 24 inches tall, around .75 inches thick, and
originally side sewn single sheets and case bound. The text block
is pulling away from the case, and the sewing is coming undone, but
the paper is in remarkably good condition. I'm not crazy about the
side-sewing, but the paper drapes fairly well (although part of the
reason the paper drapes as well as it does is because the sewing is
coming undone), and the book has very large margins. I won't be able
to devote the time it would take to guard all the pages into
signatures, so it will remain single sheets. The book sees and will
continue to see regular use so durability is a concern.

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to point me to a helpful
resource or two, or just have some wisdom to share with regards to
rebinding a volume like this.
