ACDG Panelists needed for 2013 AIC Meeting

The Archives Conservation Discussion Group (ACDG) of the AIC Book
and Paper Group is pleased to announce the 2013 session topic: Is
it Real? The Value and Ethics of Using Surrogates

In line with this year's AIC theme: Contemporary in Conservation,
focusing not only on the conservation of contemporary art but also
to contemporary approaches to conservation, the ACDG aims to examine
the implications and the use of surrogates in collections.

The demands on physical collections are growing as interest in
unique collections increases. These demands are a concern to the
conservation and preservation community. Surrogates are often
suggested in order to mitigate damage and exposure of the physical
objects. This solution however is controversial. Some have
embraced this practice while others refuse to make the switch. This
discussion will delve into each side of the issues, uses, and needs
of surrogacy in collections. We are looking to include perspectives
from within as well as outside the field that are impacted by the
use of surrogates, digital and physical. Which side of the fence are
you on? We want to hear from you.

Do you have a specific opinion on this subject? If so the ACDG wants
to hear your opinions and experiences and on the matter of surrogacy
used in collections (for exhibit, research, etc.). We are looking
for a group of panelist from varied institutions with unique
opinions to get discussions flowing in a less traditional format. If
you are interested, contact one of the ACDG chairs for more
information and to be considered. Deadline is December 31, 2012.
