Correction

There is a BIG error on p. 11 in the first issue of this year: an author's name was misspelled. It should be Andrei Codreseu (not Condrescu). He must have seen it when he got his tear sheet, but he didn't say anything--too busy or too good-natured, probably, or both.

A Thank-You To Supporters

The Alkaline Paper Advocate is one of two newsletters issued by Abbey Publications, Inc.. (a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation) to promote and encourage the preservation of books and documents. The Abbey Newsletter covers preservation and treatment of existing materials; the Alkaline Paper Advocate promotes the production and use of alkaline paper. Since alkaline paper lasts several times as long as paper made in the usual pH range around 5.0, its use can be considered a way of preserving the materials of the future.

Subscribers provide nearly all the income of Abbey Publications, but since the field is small and the cost of gathering information is rather high, especially for this Newsletter, subscription fees do not cover all costs. The deficit is made up from voluntary contributions.

This year, $1916 has been received, which the Editor and Trustees acknowledge with gratitude:

The Alkaline Paper Advocate is issued six times a year (1988 had only five issues ), and has about 370 subscribers. Subscriptions (which include a free pH pen) are on a calendar year basis: All start with the first issue of the year, unless requested otherwise, and end on Dec. 31, or after the last issue of the year has appeared. An index for the year is sent out in the first quarter, and interim indexes are available on request. Individual subscriptions, and uncomplicated subscriptions from institutions, are $30 starting with 1990; others are $40. Back issues for 1988 and current subscriptions for 1989 are $25. The following special subscription categories have been established:
