Corrections

Noranda Forest Recycled Papers, in Thorold, Ontario (formerly Fraser Inc.), went alkaline in November 1990. Of the 12 fine paper mills in Canada, five are alkaline and one (Provincial Papers in Thunder Bay) is neutral. The alkaline mills are CPFP in Dryden, E.B. Eddy in Hull and Ottawa, Island Paper in New Westminster, and Prince Albert Pulp & Paper, a division of Weyerhaeuser Canada. E.B. Eddy has one other alkaline mill, in the U.S. (Port Huron, Michigan).

pH Pens

The Abbey pH Pen can be purchased in Canada through BFB, a division of University Products. Their number is 416/858-7888.

The chlorophenol red solution in the pens has been made stronger, to give a darker mark that is easier to interpret. The price has also been raised by about 19%, to cover the overhead costs that are a bit higher than originally estimated. (Much of this overhead has to do with distribution arrangements both -domestic and foreign, quality testing including natural aging and getting customers' logos imprinted on the pens. These have all proven to be time-consuming.)

The new prices are as follows:
