Grays Harbor Paper Mill Gets New Lease on Life

Two or three months ago, an agreement was reached among five parties that allowed the Grays Harbor paper mill at Hoquiam, Washington, to reopen. These five parties are: a group of local investors (who bought the paper mill), Weyerhaeuser Co. (which will market the mill's paper), ITT Rayonier Inc. and International Paper Co. (the former joint owners), Pope & Talbot (which will furnish pulp), and the Association of Western Pulp & Paper Workers (which has negotiated a new five-year contract). The pulp mill will be demolished.

AFPA is now in Washington

The American Forest and Paper Association moved to Washington, DC, around August 5-10. The address is 1250 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20036 (202/463-2700).

Provincial Papers Goes it Alone

Provincial Papers, which makes neutral coated freesheet paper in its Thunder Bay, Ontario, mill has been employee-owned since June 1. It is no longer a division of Abitibi-Price.
