The Paintings Specialty Group (PSG) was formed in 1980. The purpose of the PSG is to improve knowledge of all subjects relating to the conservation of paintings, to promote proficiency and skill in the practice of paintings conservation, and to disseminate related technical and professional information. The group currently has more than 700 members from the United States and 17 countries throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

Beyond the talks presented during PSG session of the annual AIC meeting, the PSG is involved with several publications and workshops. The Painting Specialty Group Postprints, published annually, include papers from the presenters and highlights from the tips shared during the PSG lunch. The PSG has published the first two volumes of the Painting Conservation Catalogue, "Varnishes and Surface Coatings" and "Stretchers and Strainers." The third volume "Inpainting" is expected to be published in 2010. Publications, including back issues of the Postprints, are available for sale through the AIC website.

At the 2009 Annual meeting in Los Angeles, for the first time the PSG will present the Painting Specialty Group Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Paintings Conservation. Download more information and the nomination form>>

Membership to the PSG includes receipt of a copy of the annual PSG Postprints, the opportunity to join the Paintings Listserv in order to share and exchange ideas and practical information among colleagues, and participation in the election of officers at the business meeting. Fees to join: $25; $15 (students).
