Conservation Catalog

The Photographic Materials Conservation Catalog (PMCC) provides information pertinent to the preservation, treatment, and exhibition of photographic materials as an aid for conservators in the decision making process. Initiated in 1989 as a print publication, in 2008 the chapter790s were reformatted as a wiki through funding provided by the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training. Now AIC-PMG members can contribute directly to any subject for the benefit of the profession and information is accessible to anyone.

The intent of the PMCC is for conservators to create content for other conservators without establishing definitive procedures or providing step-by-step recipes for non-conservators. Individual conservators accessing the information are solely responsible for determining the safety, adequacy, and appropriateness of a treatment for a given project and must understand the possible effects of treatments on photographic materials.

All chapters are available for contributions as the knowledge within the profession continues to evolve and expand. Members are encouraged to share their expertise where relevant no matter how large or small.

For further information about the Photographic Materials Conservation Catalog or how to begin contributing to the project, please contact the PMCC Chair, Stephanie Watkins.
