The
Photographic Materials Group (PMG) consists of about 300 members
who are interested in photographic preservation, conservation
treatment, history and technology. The various backgrounds and
interests of PMG members mirrors the diversity of materials found
in photographic media: plastic film, glass, metal, and composite
objects including wood, paper prints, and album/book structures.

[MEMBERSHIP]
|
| The
PMG convenes at every AIC annual meeting as well as at a separate
biannual winter meeting. On those years that include the winter
meeting, the session at the AIC annual meeting is abbreviated, usually
only a business session. For those years without the winter meeting,
there is typically at least a full day of presentations at the AIC
annual meeting. Presentations include a range of talks covering
preservation, collections, treatment, informal tips, updates on
research, disaster recovery, and the history and technology of photography.
The biannual winter meeting includes two full days of presentations
and frequently pre- or post-conference workshops or lectures. PMG
publishes the biannual Topics in Photographic Preservation, an unjuried
compilation of papers submitted by members. The first chapter of
the Photographic Materials Conservation Catalog is now available.

Although
PMG has no formal liaison relationship with other organizations,
individual members are active participants in standard setting committees
such as the American National Standards Institute Photographic Standards
and other professional organizations such as the Society of American
Archivists. Fees to join: $25; $10 (students).
