Activities Joint Sessions. In 1996 and in 1997 RATS held joint sessions with the Paintings and Architecture Specialty Groups respectively. RATS maintains an interest in developing these sessions with AIC Specialty Groups, and hopes to extend this cooperation to other related professional groups involved in the preservation and conservation of material of cultural, scientific, historic and artistic significance. Recognized Papers. The subgroup has identified and sponsored papers at annual meetings since 1996. These papers provide outstanding examples of conservation research across the entire spectrum of AIC specialties. Technology Transfer. Conservators are constantly striving to incorporate the latest technical and scientific developments into the field. In an effort to support this effort, in 1997 the group sponsored a session focusing on technology transfer from allied fields to conservation. RATS has also conducted panel discussions and short technical presentations as part of its annual business meeting. Research Priorities. In 1994 RATS members Eric Hansen and Chandra Reedy published "Research Priorities in Art and Architectural Conservation: A Report of the AIC Membership Survey." This report identified areas of research potential within the AIC. RATS also seeks to keep the AIC membership informed of the latest efforts in conservation research. To this end it has published abstracts of current research in the AIC Newsletter. RATS aims to work with all specialty groups within AIC to aid in the development or design of research projects. The group has cooperated with Architecture and Textiles Specialty groups at the Annual meetings. |
