1. An opaque or semi-opaque vitreous composition applied by fusion to the surface of a metal or other substance for purposes of ornamentation and/or protection. See also: CHAMPLEVÉ BINDINGS ;CLOISONNÉ BINDINGS . 2. A term applied to a coated paper or to the coating material on a paper.
