gold knife

A flat-bladed knife, the blade of which is about 6 inches long and 3/4 inch wide. It has a smooth moderately sharp cutting edge on one or both sides. It is used to manipulate GOLD LEAF and to cut it to the required sizes and shapes. The knife must be sharp enough to cut the leaf with a single back-and-forth stroke but not so sharp as to cut the leather of the GOLD CUSHION . See also: GILDER'S TIP . (237 )
