large paper copy ( large paper edition )
A copy of a book printed on larger and
(frequently) a better quality paper than that used
for the usual trade edition, thus giving it more
extensive margins. Large paper copies are printed
from the same type as the rest of the edition, but
often margins have been reset to provide a wider
margin at the gutter as well as the other edges.
Large paper copies are recorded in England dating
from the 1590s, becoming increasingly popular
until well into the 19th century. See also: FINE PAPER COPY ;LIMITED EDITION ;SMALL PAPER COPY .
