red marble

A cover marble executed by coating the leather before covering with a heated mixture of Brazil dust (brazilin, i.e., Brazil wood), alum and vinegar, and, after covering, a coating of glair followed by potash water and vinegar black. Aqua regia added to the basic Brazil dust solution supposedly produced a brighter and more "permanent red. See also: ROCK MARBLE . (95 )
