A book cover of metal, usually silver, produced by
hammering or shaping the metal into a design from
the reverse side, generally into a mold of wood,
or other solid material, that has been carved
intaglio. The metal is then attached to the book
board, which is usually made of wood.
Repousé work is often refined by chasing.
