semi-chemical pulp

A paper pulp produced by mild chemical treatment of the raw materials followed by a mechanical fiberization operation. Delignification is only partially accomplished; consequently the individual cellulose fibers are not completely separated. The stock coming from the digester is made up of either softened chips or a mixture of free fibers and softened chip centers; therefore, it must be mechanically fiberized in attrition mills to produce a pulp that can be readily felted.
