A cover marble prepared by first executing the usual TREE CALF , placing an oval of paper on each cover, and blackening the covers around the ovals. When this color is dry, the areas are sponged with basil water, and then red is thrown on in spots. When the red is dry, the ovals are removed and the red spots are washed with water. As a further embellishment, the ovals are sometimes colored with a mixture of wine and powdered tumeric. Also called "variegated." (95 )
