The Conservation Binding cumulates functional and economical aspects. Archival quality materials are used to produce a reversible binding with optimal opening features and within reasonable working time. It picks up the best functioning features and structures from the coptic to gothic period of bookbinding. Decorative elements are deliberately excluded for economical reasons.The course is composed of lectures with double slide projection based on the research of Prof. Janos A. Szirmai and hand-on practical work. Each participant will do two sample-bindings. One will be a wood cover binding with hollow back and integral endband, the other a Quarter-Joint-Binding.
