CONSERVATION OF A FAN

SANDRA GREENWALD VIERRA, & BETHUNE GIBSON

7 SUMMARY

As stated at the beginning, this object was in urgent need of treatment. Minimum conservation was impossible, as the fragility of the materials was extreme. Undoubtedly, the methods used were not the only ones that could have been chosen, but the conservator made the choices that seemed to her to be the best for this particular specimen. It may be of interest that the work on the fan, including research on its history and the small amount of documentation available, occupied nearly four months, an estimated 640 hours of work time.
