WCG Volunteer Opportunities

WCG members serve the community through outreach programs including our Angels Projects, the WCG Outreach Booth, and occasional lectures.

Calls for volunteers to help with these projects are posted to this page as they become known.

WCG Booth and Conservation Clinic, Saturday, May 15th

On Saturday, May 15th, WCG will be partnering with the Historical Society of Washington DC, to present the first annual conservation clinic at the Society's museum at Mt. Vernon Square, in downtown Washington.

The focus of this first effort will be books, papers and photos, and WCG members of that specialty are encouraged to mark their calenders and plan to attend. The event will be held from 1-4pm, and is being produced in cooperation with the Library of Congress, the Washington DC Public Libraries, and the African-American Civil War Museum.

Members of the public will be able to consult with a conservator for 10 minutes concerning their personal or family memorabilia, by appointment or on a walk-in basis. In addition to the conservation consultations, there will be presentations in the Society's theater on topics such as appraisals and the history of photographic conservation.

This event is part of WCG's educational outreach effort, and follows up on the Angels Project that was produced at the HSWDC in 2007. It is being presented as part of Preservation Month 2010, and happens to fall on the same week that the annual AIC meeting is being held this year.

Members are encouraged to help make this a hugely successful event, both for the Historical Society and WCG, as well as helping to introduce members of the public to the conservation profession. We need to provide at least 4 conservators for this event, and possibly more, from the book/paper/photo specialty.

Please contact Michele Pagan at michele_johnpagan@yahoo.com, or call 202-546-5439, to volunteer.
