sodium chloride

Common salt (NaCl). which occurs naturally as rock salt, and is distributed over the land surfaces of the earth, as well as in sea water. It is used in very large quantities in brining, wet-salting, and dry-salting (curing) hides and skins for transportation and/or storage. It is also used to pickle sheepskins, and in deliming, bating, and other leather manufacturing processes. (363 )
