Foam tape

Henry Grunder suggested I cross-post this information to this list.  It

In case others of you are interested, here is a summary of the
responses I received to my recent inquiry regarding the use of
double-sided foam tape for installing lightweight panels in
temporary exhibits:

Foam tape is fairly easy to remove from hard surfaces like wood or
stone, but does tend to pull off the paint layer and sometimes tears
the top layer on drywall.  One way to get it off is to slice it in
half with piano wire or a long knife, and then roll each half off.
Or, once it's sliced, soak it with Bestline Solvent and Thinner
(rubber cement thinner), which loosens the adhesive and doesn't
stain the wall, at least not if it's painted with semi-gloss.  If
you're planning to use these methods of removal, use 1/8 inch thick
tape.  The consensus is that the black 3M tapes are easier to remove
than the white.  Specific brands recommended by people on the list
were Scotch Tape 3M #4432, 1/32" thick, and Scotch Mount #06377.
